Patronilla "Pat" Ammon went home to the Lord on Tuesday February 13, 2013. She was born Petronilla Joan Sopata on January 27, 1918 in Hastings, PA, the fourth of eight daughters born to John and Mary Sopata. She was raised to age eleven in the borough or Emeigh Run, PA. In 1929 she and her family moved to be with relatives in Chicago, IL. She left school after graduation from eighth grade to help support her family. She worked in Chicago until her younger sisters were able to go out on their own.

In 1939 she met Gordon Ammon, of Honey Creek, WI while on vacation at Delavan Lake. They were married in 1941 and made their first home in Walworth, WI where they owned and operated a Texaco Oil Station. While Pat's husband was serving in the United States Army overseas, their first child was born and Pat moved back to Chicago to have the support of her family. In April of 1947 Pat and her family moved to the village of Williams Bay, WI. It was here that they had purchased a small gas station and auto repair business. In 1952 Pat went to work at George Williams College Camp where she served as head of housekeeping services for several years. This brought her in contact with many young people who came to the camp in the summer months from the college in Chicago to work for their tuition. Several of these summer employees become Pat's lifelong friends.

She lived more than 30 years in Williams Bay and for several years in San Diego, CA, Groton, CT and Goose Greek, SC before returning to Wisconsin in 1988. She was a member of many clubs and organizations in Williams Bay and Walworth County. She served as an auxiliary volunteer for many years with the Delavan Fire Department and as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Williams Bay as well as various neighborhood social groups.

Pat was a devoted wife, mother and friend to all. Her door was always open, whether you needed a helping hand or a loan to tide you over, Pat never put herself first. Her children family and friends were her truest and most precious wealth. She lived her life by a simple principle: What you have can be lost, but what you give can never be taken away.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; her daughter, Karen Currin in 2004 and her sisters, Ann, Helen, Stella, Martha, Rhonda, Elizabeth and Louise.

She is survived by her son Gordon II of Kenosha; three grandchildren, Andrew Ammon of Watertown and Mia and Zoe Currin both of Hagarstown, MD; and one great granddaughter, Elyse Currin also of Hagerstown.

Mrs. Ammon will be buried on Monday, May 20 at 1 p.m. at German Settlement Cemetery in Honey Creek, WI.

Memorials may be directed to Missionary Fund, Community Baptist Church, PO Box 38, Honey Creek, WI 53138.

Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. For further information call 715-623-3787 or to leave an online condolence go to www.bradleyfh.com

Gordon, I am so sorry to hear that Pat has passed away. I've had the obit here for a bit, just didnt' take the time to write. She was an amazing lady, she and my mom were the best of buddies. Your mom always told me that if it wasn't for her Eloise would not have gotten the job at College Camp! She was a treat to be around. My kids looked at her as their other grandma. Pat and my mom took care of both of my kids when I vacationed. Pat came to mom's apartment in the Bay and helped her ride herd on them. We stopped to see her in Delavan when we were in the area. My kid always loved to see her and she enjoyed them also. She will be missed. Keep all the good memories close in your heart. She will live forever there.
