Jan M. Berg, Sr., age 75 of Marshfield, Wis., returned to our heavenly home on Monday, December 10, 2012.
He was born in Antigo, Wis. on March 8, 1937 to parents Vernon and Gladys (Peterson) Berg. During his boyhood years, he always looked forward to spending summers on the farm in White Lake, Wis. Music training also began with choir and clarinet.
After graduating from Ottumwa High School in Iowa, Jan completed one year at Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn., before enlisting in the United States Marines Corps at Camp Pendleton. He served for two years and was honorably discharged with rank of Corporal and received an expert rifleman marksmanship badge. While in the USMC Reserves, Jan completed his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration degree at Drake University in DesMoines, Iowa and followed his father's footsteps in a sales career. His hobbies included Warbirds history and Wisconsin Badgers football.
Jan is survived by his three children, Marcia (Leo) Engstrom of Lynnwood, Wash., Jon (Deanna) Berg of Rockford, Ill., and Jan Berg, Jr., of Marshfield, Wis.; two grandchildren, Jason Berg and Kyle Berg, both of Rockford Ill; sister, Judy (Robert) Monson of Minneapolis, Minn.; brother, Tom (Sandy) Berg of Urbandale, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Jan was predeceased by both parents.
Jan was confirmed in and his memorial service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in White Lake, Wis., on Saturday, December 15 at 1 p.m. A burial with military honors will follow at the Langlade Cemetery in the Town of Wolf River, Wis.
