Like Bill Paukert I also met Phil at Lewis . Our first days there were scary but Phil was the "old man" that had served in the airforce and surely knew the ropes. He did!! Calmed me down a little.
Phil and I both spent our aviation careers at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. He was United and I was Delta. We would occasionally drive over to the other guy's terminal to look eachother up and chat. We got together off and on over the years and really enjoyed ourselves.
I remember Phil's mom and dad very well and enjoyed trips to Antigo and Atkins lake
I consider Phil to be one of my best friends in life. He was truely a fine fellow that I was proud to have as a friend. May God bless Phil's wife and family and watch over and help you in this difficult time.

P.S.- Phil.--I know you can here me.
I still owe you one for dropping that cherry bomb day the outhouse pit when I was in there!!

B Bill Paukert on Aug 23, 2012

I first met Phil in October 1963 a few days after checking in at Lewis College. He was a god send because he was in the reserves which ment that he was going back to Antigo at least once a month. Since I was from Stevens Point which was on the way I had a ride home.. This ment that I could get home a lot more frequently than I was expecting.. We would compare notes and stories up and back and the time seemed to fly.. One Friday night we were just south of Madison on 90/94 when we heard a loud bang and the car started to shake.. We pulled over and opened the hood to find that one of the fan blades broke off. I have to tell you it was about 10 below with about a 20 mile an hour wind. This as way before wind chill factors but it was miserable to say the least.. We closed the hood and limped down the road to the next off ramp and up to a gas station.. I can't begin to tell you how much negotiating it took to get them to let us use the garage, but the clincher was we had our own tools.. About ten minutes later we were on our way with the broken fan in the trunk an all was well. May you rest in peace.. Bill Paukert Hawthorne Ca
