Germaine Szitta of Bryant peacefully entered heaven, joining her Lord and loved ones on Sunday, May 20, 2012. She was in the comfort of her home under the loving care of her family and LeRoyer Hospice.

She was born on September 4, 1919 in Antigo to the late Joseph and Anna (Nonnemacher) Giese. She attended Antigo High School, but left school before graduation to care for her parents. While in Antigo she worked at Langlade County Memorial Hospital as a cleaning lady and Weinbrenner Shoe Factory. After moving to Milwaukee she was employed at Gimbles Department Store as a waitress and at the Pfister Hotel.

After returning to Antigo, she married John Szitta on February 7, 1948 at St. John Catholic Church. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm while they proudly raised seven children. John died June 10, 1971. After retiring in 1981 she enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, completing crossword puzzles and hosting family and friends at the homestead in Bryant.

Survivors include four sons, Chief Petty Officer USN/RET Joseph (Jackie) Szitta, San Diego CA, Charles Szitta, Bryant, Lieutenant Commander USN/RET Kenneth (DeeDee) Szitta, Antigo and Gerald (Collette) Szitta, Prescott; two daughters, Karen (Chief Warrant Officer USN/RET Bill) Krueger, Birmingham, AL and Kathryn (First Class Petty Officer USN Steve) Vetter, California, Maryland; a daughter-in-law, Gladys Szitta, Pembine; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Army Corporal Specialist John Szitta Jr.; two great grandsons; and three brothers, Alfred, Harry and Raymond Giese.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday May 26, 2012 at 10a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Reverend Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
