Jack Winnega, of Antigo, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at his home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 88 years old. He was born on July 26, 1923 in the town of Norwood, a son of Joseph and Mabel (McCann) Winnega. He married Elsie Schremp on November 4, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2008.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1941.
Mr. Winnega worked at the Kraft Cheese Factory in Antigo for 33 years retiring in 1986. He also worked as an electrician in the Antigo area.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and a former member of the MSGR. Conrad Sailie Knights of Columbus Council 1002 in Antigo.
Mr. Winnega enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers and was an avid fan.
Survivors include three daughters Jackie (Jim) Simons, Antigo, Jan Roehrig, Antigo, Jill Winnega, Antigo; two Grandchildren Jason (Kerry) Simons, DePere, Samantha Roehrig and fiancée Travis Hohensee, Antigo; two great-grandchildren Anna & Keira Simons, DePere; his twin-sister Jane Meyer, Antigo; one brother-in-law Herbert (Verna) Schremp, Mosinee; three sisters-in-law Doris Willis, Antigo, Faith Schremp, Wausau and Doris Schremp, Antigo.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three sisters, Peg Winnega, Evelyn Noskowiak, and Fern Michael; a sister-in-law, Irene Keen, eleven brothers-in-law, Robert, Raymond, Paul, Ernest, Lester "Butch", Morris "Morrie", Harvey and Lawrence Schremp, Bernie Meyer, Mike Noskowiak, and Arthur "Mike" Michael.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church in Hoffmann Hall from 2 p.m. until the time of services on Friday.
