Violet Samolinski, of Antigo, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Crandon Arizconsin Group Nursing Home. She was 90 years old. She was born on December 3, 1921 in the Town of Polar, a daughter of Rudolph and Mary (Wagner) Schmidt. She married Robert Samolinski, Sr on September 14, 1946 in Antigo. He preceded her in death on February 7, 2012.
She was a graduate of Antigo High School in 1941.
She is a certified welder having worked in the ship yards in Portland, Oregon during World War II. After marriage she lived in Chippewa Falls and Porterfield for several years. The family then moved to the Town of Norwood where they operated a dairy farm for 42 years.
Mrs. Samolinski was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mattoon and was a volunteer grandmother at the Birnamwood elementry school.
She enjoyed polka dancing, knitting, sewing, crochetting and reading.
Survivors include a daughter Nina Bostwick, Antigo; a son Robert (Brenda) Samolinski Jr., Antigo; three Grandchildren Nicole (Jay) Brendemuehl, Merrill, Kristen (Nathan) Theisen, Green Bay, Robert (Patricia) Samolinski, III, Antigo; two Great-Grandchildren Riley and Avery Brendemuehl; a sister Phyllis Blatecky, North Carolina.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death two sisters, Ranata Klement, Nina Grasser; three brothers, Horace, Rudy, and Ralph Schmidt.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Mattoon with Rev. Dean Bertsch officiating. Burial will take place in the Town of Norwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-7:30 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.

Meeting Vi for the first time in my adult life was a warm memory that stays with me. At our first Family Samolinski Reunion at Lydia Mach's farm, I heard Vi call out "Hello Cousin". What a welcome.
