Wallace G. Cook, of Antigo, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at his home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 90 years old. He was born on September 5, 1921 in Crandon, a son of Jay and Lottie (Gannon) Cook.

He graduated from Crandon High School with the class of 1940. Mr. Cook drove logging trucks for his father at Cook Lumber prior to joining the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He served as a mechanic on the B-17 and F-100 air craft while stationed in England, Germany, Austria, Japan, Florida and Viet Nam. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1968 after 27 years of service having attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
Mr. Cook then worked for the United States Postal Service. After retirement he lived in Mission Texas and returned to Langlade County in 2006. On September 5, 2010 he was united in marriage to Joan (Hanke) Cook. She survives.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Pickerel.

His hobbies included golfing, playing cards, solving word puzzles, square dancing, leading exercise classes, refinishing and rebuilding antique furniture.

Survivors including his wife are two daughters Cydne Ledford, Lehigh Acres, FL, Janis Tapley, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; the mother of his children Joyce Spelios, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; a sister-in-law Vivian Cook, Rhinelander; his wife's children Joleen (Harlan) Davison, Antigo, Jay (Linda) Cook, Plover; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Roland (Jeanne) and William Cook.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Pickerel with Rev. Michael Mathey officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Friday.

Bradley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

While I did not know Mr. Cook, I know John/Barb Cook. I presume that is his great nephew and family. My deepest sympathy to all the family. And thank God for this veteran and his service to our country.
