Bernard "Bernie" Straley, of Bryant, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 1, 2022, at his home. He was 74 years old. He was born on December 15, 1947, in Elton, a son of the late Edward and Vivian (Clay) Straley.
Bernie was a fireman for Robbin's Sports Flooring in White Lake. He was very active in the town of Evergreen and had a hobby farm.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca (Lisa) Straley of Racine; a son, James Summerford of Bryant; three grandchildren, Denise (Andy) Agne of Racine; Karrina (Chris) Westerby of Racine, and Derrick (Monse) Westerby of Mount Pleasant; many great-grandchildren; his fiancé, Joy Swartwout of White Lake; one sister; and four brothers. He will also be missed by David Swartwout.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, VonDaLee Straley; a great-granddaughter, Thalia; one brother and four sisters.

Deeply saddened to hear of Bernie's sudden passing. He was one of a kind man, friend and person. Always in a positive mood & never knew a stranger. I grew up near his family in Elton and stayed friends over the years always enjoying a visit with him when ever back in the area.

Just want to say what a wonderful worker he was for the Town of Evergreen. He has done so many jobs and done them well. Never had to worry about him. He is really going to be sorely missed. All the extra time he put in and doing things he didn’t have to will long be remembered. You could always count on Bernard. So sad.
