Joseph Dale Lewis, (Flag Emblem) of Elton, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. He was 83 years old. He was born on April 19, 1938, in Scioto County, Ohio a son of Raymond and Doris (Gilliam) Lewis. He married Sandra Tomlin on April 10, 2001, at the Langlade County Courthouse.
Joe joined the United States Air Force on his 17th birthday where he received his GED and served for six years. He owned Lewis Custom Carpets for 30 years with his sons working alongside him, and was known as the county's oldest carpet installer. He was a security guard for Mole Lake Casino for 20 years. Joe served as a sideboard member for the Town of Evergreen Town Board.
Joe enjoyed being in nature, fishing, and hunting, especially squirrel hunting. He was a mechanic in his free-time fixing up hotrods. Joe enjoyed gambling, reading and was a Green Bay Packer fan.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; daughter, Ravonna (Larry) Johnson of Pinehurst, NC; two sons, Ray (Elizabeth) Lewis of White Lake and Jamie (Jenna) Schafer of Antigo; son-in-law, Dan Mullins in Deerbrook; brother, Darrell (Florence) Lewis of Argonne; sister-in-law, Nancy Lewis of Antigo; mother-in-law, Vera Tomlin of Pearson; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one on the way. He is further survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty (Straley) Lewis; daughters, Linda Lee Lewis and Tina Mullins; brothers, Doug (Kaye) Lewis, Dean (Gale) Lewis, Dallas Lewis; father-in-law, Marvin Tomlin; and his feline best friend, Hisser.
Following Joe's wishes, no services will be held.
