Daniel Shimeck, of Antigo, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 82 years old. He was born on May 22, 1929 in Neva, a son of the late John and Mary (Bauer) Shimeck. He married Joan Fredrickson on August 4, 1954 at St. Wencel Catholic Church, Neva. She survives.

He was a 1947 graduate of Antigo High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Shimeck was employed at Parsons of Antigo for 59 years. He was a member of Badgerland Classics and Customs Car Club and the Leland Tollefson Veterans of Foreign War Post 2653, Antigo.

He enjoyed classic cars, spending his winters in Leesburg, Florida with his Lakeside Village family and was a NASCAR fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Shimeck, Madison and Susan (Robert) Schuster, Pickerel; a son, Dennis (Donna) Shimeck, Rhinelander; five grandchildren, Brien (Kaycee) and Leslie (Eric Hansen) Heindl, Sarah and Ashley (Allen Bessa) Schuster and Derek Shimeck; a sister, Jacqueline Gunderson, Antigo; a brother, Edwin (Marilyn) Shimeck, Reno, Nevada; a brother-in-law, Thomas Schroeder, Antigo; and special friends, Patty and David Kimbrough, Pittsburgh, PA.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, David Shimeck; a brother, Stanley Shimeck; and a sister, Caroline Schroeder.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Wencel Catholic Church, Neva with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in St. Wencel Catholic Cemetery where the Antigo veterans will conduct military rites. Visitation will be 3:30 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held Friday at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
