Myron F. Grimes, (Flag Emblem) of Antigo, died Thursday, March 31, 2011 under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 85 years old. He was born on February 27, 1926 in Green Bay, a son of the late Ted and Regina (Lotto) Grimes. He married Grace Thayer on June 23, 1956 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Langlade. She survives.

He was a 1943 graduate of White Lake High School. Mr. Grimes joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served aboard the Light Cruiser USS BILOXI in the Pacific Theater as an electrician. He participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Occupation of Japan.

He graduated for the University of Wisconsin in 1950 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Agriculture and from the University of Minnesota in 1960 with a Master's Degree in Agriculture. He worked for U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service in Minnesota from 1950-1966 as a Soil Scientist. In 1966 he became employed by Standard Oil of Ohio as an Agronomist in their Agricultural Chemical Division retiring in 1990. After retirement he returned to Langlade and in 2006 moved to Antigo.

He was a member of St. James and Stanislaus Parish, the Wolf River Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9438, and a past member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and reading.

In addition to his wife survivors include two daughters, Kay (Frank) Leyba, Santa Ana, CA and Barbara (Paul) Nietzel, Omaha, NE; a son, David Grimes, Langlade; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary "Dolly" (Warren) Thomas, Lakewood, and Frances (John) Wurzer, Appleton.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Langlade with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in Langlade Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. White Lake veterans will conduct military rites at the church following Mass.
