Robert Schroepfer, age 92, of Antigo, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018, at home with family and special friend and caregiver Glenna by his side.
Survivors include his children William, Wayne, Joseph (Lynda), Lorri (Lee) Horne, Andrew, Linda (Ken) Heinzen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was the youngest child of Anton and Marion (Nesbit) Schroepfer. He was preceded in death by an infant son Stanley; siblings Al (Gert), Frank "Hub" (Georgiana), Delia (Ray) Metzger, Marion (Frank) Wachal, Annette (Edwin) Andraschko, Elizabeth (Ken) Kester, Viola (John) Crha, Stella (Walter) Schielke, Carl (Delores), Angeline (Ray) Bauknecht.
Robert began life as the youngest of eleven during the great depression on a small family farm east of Antigo. In his teens he went to Chicago to join the United States Navy, but an auto accident left him with a medical discharge. He stayed in Chicago and joined his brother Al and brother-in-law Frank Wachal working for Chair City Transport.
In Chicago he was to meet the love of his life Doris Flint from North Dakota. They were married in 1948. They moved back to Antigo to farm with his brother-in-law Frank. Following a number of years farming he returned to driving for Schneider Transport. He retired as a Teamster with over three million consecutive miles without incident.
In 1989 his wife passed away. While many struggle when this happens, he dove into learning everything about running his household, showing perseverance and courage. Not one to be idle he then drove medical transport in the Antigo area until age 80. He will long be remembered as Antigo's beloved west side crossing guard finally retiring at age 88.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. Mathew Simonar officiating. Entombment will take place in Queen of Peace Mausoleum.

Uncle Bob was so good to us Metzgers kids when we visited. He always had time for us with a smile on his face. His ability to make people laugh was a precious gift. He will be sorely missed . I am sure he was welcomed with open arms as he approached the pearly gates. So sorry for your loss. Love you. Hugs Mary Adeline Metzger Nielsen
