Floyd W. Frisch, 79, of 521 Hudson Street, Antigo, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at home surrounded by family and under the loving care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was born August 7, 1931, in Antigo, a son of late Joseph and Anna (Husnick) Frisch. On July 30, 1960 he married Lorraine Zima, who survives. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010.
Mr. Frisch served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, spending 16 months serving with the 65th Infantry on the front battle lines in the Korean War. While in the Army, he was recognized with a Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, United Nations Korean Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed by the Langlade County Highway Department for 33 years, until his retirement in 1993. He was the head foreman of the black top and paving crew during most of his years with the county.
Mr. Frisch was a member and long-time usher at St. John Catholic Church. He was a member of the Msgr. Conrad Saile Council 1002 Knights of Columbus, the Msgr. Conrad Saile Assembly 1214 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Leland-Tollefson Veterans of Foreign War Post 2653, all of Antigo.
Mr. Frisch doted on his grandchildren, enjoyed spending hours in his workshop tinkering and crafting, caring for and grooming his yard, feeding his birds and squirrels and being involved in the annual mission fish fry at St. John. He will be remembered for his devotion to the elderly in his neighborhood as he mowed their lawns, shoveled their sidewalks, and helped with maintenance on their homes.
In addition to his wife, Lorraine, survivors include five children: Karen (Don) Brettingen, Waconia, MN, Thomas (Michelle) Frisch, Hiawatha, IA, Kim Frisch, Westminster, CO, Todd (Melissa) Frisch, River Falls, Jennifer Frisch, Seattle, WA; eight beloved grandchildren: Ben, Pete, and Lauren Brettingen, Olivia, Isaac, and Isabel Frisch and Kenna and Cole Frisch; three sisters: Marie Hunt, Green Bay, Cecelia (Rudy) Ourada, Reedsville and Millie Zimmerman, Antigo; sisters-in-law: Pat Frisch, Green Bay, Marilyn Frisch, Antigo. Also surviving from his wife's family are Ken and Aggie Husnick, Antigo and Dorothy Zima, Eldorado.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Frisch was preceded in death by four brothers: Maynard (Clara) Frisch, Norman (Alice) Frisch, Roy Frisch, and Donald Frisch; three brothers-in-law: Don Zima, Stanley Hunt and Eugene Zimmerman; a sister-in-law Mary Brown.
The Celebration of Floyd's life will be held Thursday 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church. Rev. Charles Hoffmann will officiate. Entombment will be in the Queen of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum where military rites will be conducted by the Antigo Veterans.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bradley Funeral Home with a parish wake service at 3:30 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A luncheon will be held for all family, relatives and friends in the St. John Parish hall immediately after the committal rites at the cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to All Saints Catholic School or LeRoyer Hospice.

Karen and Family, How I have enjoyed reading through your father's obituary and looking at the picture of your beautiful family. He sounds like a Honorable man. How special for you guys to have celebrated your parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary last year. He must have been wonderful because look at everything he has created. What a legacy! Our Deepest Sympathy to you and your family. We were so blessed to have gotten to know Floyd we couldn't have asked for a better neighbor. He always had a kind word to say and always was kind hearted to us. He will be sadly missed by all! Its going to be quite quiet in the neighborhood without hearing Floyd with his lawn mower going and his leaf blower....we all knew when it was time to do ours when we heard Floyd out there! Floyd was a wonderful caring man with a smile that was infectous. He was a neighbor that everyone would want to have and we were truely blessed for having known him. We will miss hearing the lawnmower and knowing its time to mow because Floyd's out there. Sam will miss the conversations also but will hold dear to the ones they shared.
