Chester J. Thompson, of Antigo, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 69 years old. He was born on January 23, 1942 in Mattoon a son of the late Jerome and Lena (Wolf) Thompson Sr. He married Christine Green on August 29, 1970 in Appleton. She survives.

He graduated from Mattoon High School in 1960. He served in the United States Army from November 1963 to January 1966.

He lived in Wauwatosa where he worked in construction and for Falk Corporation for 13 years. In 1985 he returned to Mattoon where he was employed at Wisconsin Veneer and Plywood Mill retiring in 2001. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, working on his farm and time in the woods. He truly valued time spent with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Lena (Steve) Klosterman, Shawano and Linda (Casey) Smith, Bryant; two sons, Clifford (Whitney) Thompson, Birnamwood and Jerome Thompson, Antigo; sister-in-law, Cheri Woldt, who was like a daughter to him; six grandchildren, Morgana, Kendall and Casey Smith, Autumn Klosterman, Blaze and Virginia Thompson; step-grandchildren, Andy (Hilary) Klosterman and Katie Klosterman; one step great grandchild, Brysen Klosterman; four sisters, Ihone Johnson, Antigo, June Menting, Phlox, Martha Hayek, Milwaukee and Shirley Thompson, Antigo; and a brother, Harold Thompson, Gurnee, IL.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jay, Howard and Jerome Jr. and a sister, Florence Thompson.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Mattoon with Rev. Dean Bertsch officiating. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
