Sylvia Resch, of Antigo, died Sunday, January 23, at Rosalia Gardens. She was 89 years old. She was born on November 18, 1921 in Antigo, a daughter of Wenzel and Mary (Cherny) Steffek. On October 23, 1943 she married Alvin Resch at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Antigo.
She was a graduate of Antigo High School in 1939.
She worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company factory and Sheldon's' Inc.
Mrs. Resch was a talented artist creating oil paintings, ceramics and rosemaling. She made quilts, sewing one for each of her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She loved spending time in her flower garden, often exchanging plants with her family and friends.
Mrs. Resch was a member of SS Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church and its rosary society.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Curt) Collins of Naples, Florida, Mary (Carl) Beringer of Xenia, Ohio, a son Al "Mike" (Sandy) of New Holstein, and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Resch of Antigo. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, including a very special granddaughter, Caree Hoerman of Antigo, 25 great-grandchildren and a brother, Edward Steffek of Clintonville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Richard, two sisters Helen Strube and Margaret Bauknecht and a brother George Steffek.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at noon at SS. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Community Health Foundation (112 E. Fifth Ave. Antigo, WI 54409) for the benefit of Rosalia Gardens.
