Cliff Johnsen, of Antigo, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Eastview Medical & Rehabilitation Center. He was 79 years old. He was born on June 26, 1931 in Platteville, a son of Clarence and Opal (Hoosier) Johnsen. He married Marge Laska on December 31, 1955 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wausau. She survives.
He graduated from Platteville High School in 1950 and served in the United States Army during the Korean War having been stationed in Alaska.
He worked for the Platteville Telephone Company 1954-1963. In 1963 he moved to Wausau and began his career with GTE as a cable splicer. He was promoted to Outside plant supervisor and moved to Antigo in 1968. From 1980 to 1987 he continued his work with GTE in San Angelo Texas. He retired in 1987 and returned to Antigo.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 662 in Antigo. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and traveling.
Survivors including his wife are two daughters Ann (Ron) Basken, Antigo, Carolyn Johnsen(Fred Kaske), Antigo; a son Allan (Kathy) Johnsen, Rothschild; five grandchildren Sarah Kaske, Erin (Corey) Lundgren, Seth Kaske, Monica Glaeser and Jessica Johnsen; three great-grandchildren Brenna, Ilah and Asher Lundgren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy Krebs and Norma Mortensen.
Memorial services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Omer Kelley officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
