Violet Rocke, of Antigo, died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Langlade Hospital. She was 90 years old. She was born on May 3, 1919 in Neva, to Laddie and Clara (Legro) Schmutzer. She married Roy Rocke on July 13, 1946 at St. Wencel Catholic Church, Neva. He survives.

She attended Deerbrook Graded School and Antigo High School. She worked at the Langlade County jail under Sherriff Brack Gillespie and provided child care and housework for Dr. Curran and his family. For 22 years Mrs. Rocke served as treasurer for the Langlade County 4-H Leaders Association, and was a leader for the Willing Workers 4-H club. She was a member of Sts. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church, the Royal Neighbors of America, the Pioneer Homemakers club, the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Auxillary Unit 377 in Elcho, and the LaSociete de Femme Langlade County Cabane 1204.


Survivors including her husband are a daughter Barbara (Dale) Smejkal, Fremont, Neb.; two grandchildren Christina (Patrick) Winnie, Wausau, Jessica (Tim) Jackson, Atlanta, GA; three great grandchildren and a brother Edward Schmutzer, Neva.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Lillian Gallenberg; three brothers, Frank, Aloysius and George Schmutzer.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Bradley Funeal Home with Fr. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Entombment will take place Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Visitation will be 3:30 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday.
