Floyd Woodrow Powell, Sr. died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Langlade Hospital with his family at his side to meet his wife, Margaret, at Heaven's Gate. He was 91 years old. Born August 15, 1918 in Pearson to the late Elmer and Luella (Thorn) Powell, he married Margaret Clark on January 2, 1943 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Pickerel. He was a long-time member of St. John Catholic Church, Antigo.



Mr. Powell graduated from the Pearson Grade School and farmed with his father until 1943. For the next 25 years he was a foreman for his uncle at Lonnie Powell Farms. He owned and operated Floyd's Repair specializing in semi trucks and diesel engines. In addition to his family, he enjoyed his vegetable garden, a good cook, hunting, fishing, mechanical inventions and always a good joke. He was a proud, quiet man with a quick grin. His true strength was in his gentleness.



Survivors include five daughters - Diane (Gary) Strube of Hortonville, Mary (Don) Teal of Greenville, Cindy (Neal) Martin of Deerbrook, Maydene (Gerald) McDougal of Deerbrook, Glenda (Jim) Yonke of Merrill; six sons - Floyd (Ruth Perry) Powell of Antigo, Richard (Sharon) Powell of Gateway, CO, Thomas Powell, Roy (Cindy) Powell, Loren (Marian) Powell all of Antigo, Dan (Phil Suhm) Powell of Maiden Rock; two foster daughters - Debbie (Dan) Witman of Pickerel, Ann (Sam) Bort of Racine; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandson, two sisters - Ruby Dalton of Antigo, Virginia (Ben) Clark of Pickerel; two sisters-in-law - Donna Powell of Pearson; Lorraine Powell of Stevens Point; a brother-in-law - Donald Malitz of Pearson .



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two grandsons, Richie and Lee Powell, four sisters, Jeanette Wissbroecker, Nannette Malitz, and Charlotte Powell, and Eva (Edwin) Hoffman, four Brothers, Armond Powell, Elmer Powell Jr., Donald Powell and Ervin Powell, and a brother-in-law, Wayne Dalton.



Funeral services will be held on Monday at St. John Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in Pearson Cemetery.

Rest peacefully in God's loving hands. We will miss you forever and love you for always.
