Caroline (Lex) Koeppel, of the Town of Norwood, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Evergreen Terrace in Antigo. She was 88 years old. She was born on September 26, 1920 in the Town of Aniwa to the late Robert and Mary (Mondl) Lex. She married Norbert Koeppel on September 26, 1940 at St. Boniface Catholic Church Aniwa. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2000.
She farmed with her husband for forty-seven years until retirement in 1979 and moved to Phlox. She was an active member of St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Parish and the St. Anne's Society serving as vice-president.
She tied Mepps fishing lures for Sheldon's for twenty-five years, taught knitting classes to Phlox Flames 4-H Club members, and enjoyed arranging flowers on the altar at St. Joseph Catholic Church for nineteen years. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, woodworking and working in her flower gardens.
Survivors include her daughter, Penelope Koeppel Milwaukee; three sons, Daniel Koeppel, Ironwood, Mich. Terrence (Joy)Koeppel, Phlox and Randy (Debbie) Koeppel, Summit Lake; daughter-in-law, Mary (Jim) Kriha Aniwa; 17 grandchildren, Kelly (Pat Hugunin) Carter, Bret (Nicki) Koeppel, Aaron Koeppel, Joy Ruce, Jay Koeppel, Corey Koeppel, Robynn Koeppel, Billie Jo (Eric) Burkhart, Bobbie Jo (Jay) Vanden Heuvel Toni Jo (Matt) Hofacker, Travis Koeppel, Chase (Amanda) Koeppel, Richie (Marsha) Koeppel, Jamie (Lori) Koeppel, Ernie Koeppel, Reggie (Christal) Jorgensen, Kristin (Tracy) Zettler; 12 great-grandchildren one sister, Eunice Winger St. Paul, Minn; and sister-in-law, Alice Lex, Antigo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, William Koeppel, a infant daughter, Mary Ann Koeppel, two sisters, Kathryn Strelow and Rose Balthazor, three brothers, Rudy Lex, George Lex, and Joe Lex, two grandchildren, Dennis and Raven.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. David Kiefer and Deacon Tom Hartman officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery Phlox. Visitation will be Sunday at Bradley Funeral Home from 3:30-8 p.m. with parish wake service at 7 p.m. and a closed casket visitation Monday at church from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.
