Norman Gray, of Deerbrook, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Langlade Hospital in the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 85 years old. He was born on October 30, 1923 in Belfast, Maine the son of the late Stanley and Mabel (Smith)Gray. He married Eleanor Truman in 1945 and Jean Peterson-Wandel in 1975, they both preceded him in death. He married Elaine Resch-Wandel on Jan 12, 1991 at Milwaukee, she survives


He attended school in Lincolnville, Maine and joined the United States Army during WWll. He served as a cook and heavy equipment operator while stationed in Hawaii. He was discharged from the Army with the rank of Sargeant. He settled in Milwaukee where he was a mechanic for the Milwaukee Transport Company. He retired to the Deerbrook area. He was a member of the United Church of Christ Church, Kempster and the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post 377, Elcho where he was a member of the Honor Guard and Post Historian for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, five step-sons, Robert (Carol) Wandel, Hubertus, Ronald (Nancy) Wandel, Iola, Timothy Wandel, Honey Lake, Richard (Dianne) Wandel, Jr., Sussex, Gary (Bonnie) Wandel, Brown Deer, a step daughter, Joni Lee Wandel-Hayes, Germantown, 14 grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is also survived by family in Maine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. at United Church of Christ, Kempster, with Rev. Jack LaMar officiating. Burial will take place in Kempster Lakeside Cemetery where the Elcho American Legion will conduct Military Honors. Visitation will be Monday at the church from noon until time of services.
