Kayla Shafel, of Bryant, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 as the result of a motorcycle accident in Lincoln County. She was 19 years old. Born May 11, 1989 in Antigo, WI to Michael and Kathleen (Rasmussen) Shafel.

She is a member of St. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church. She graduated from All Saints Grade School and in 2007 graduated from Antigo High School. At the present she is a sophomore at University of Wisconsin Marathon campus studying accounting with business management classes. Because of her special blood type, she was a regular donor for the Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Survivors include her, brother, Markus Shafel Antigo; paternal grandparents, James (Bonnie) Shafel Antigo; maternal grandmother, Nancy Rasmussen Antigo; maternal grandfather, Richard (Deb) Rasmussen Merrill; aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by two uncles Allen Shafel and Bernard Rasmussen.
She was a conservationist at heart, concerned about the environment. She had a love for animals with a passion for horses. She was a skilled farm equipment operator; driving tractors, forklifts, loaders, and trucks.
She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and sports cars.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 11am at St. Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church, Antigo with Rev. Jeremiah Worman, officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Antigo. Visitation will be Thursday, September 25 3:30 pm to 8pm with a parish wake service at 4pm and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Bradley Funeral Home Hw 45, Antigo.

Kayla was a very special person who was loved by everyone she met. She was a free spirit, a ray of sunshine, and lived life to the fullest always giving 110%. She was a true gift from God and will never be forgotten.
