Robert Preboski of Antigo died Friday, May 2, 2008 at Eastview Medical & Rehabilitation Center. He was 87 years old. Born April 21, 1921 in Antigo to the late Joseph and Julia (Morgan) Preboski. He married Mary Wild on April 15, 1944 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. She survives.

He attended Eau Claire Grade School and worked at Kretz Brothers Lumber. He served in the United States Army from Oct. 20, 1942 to Oct. 29, 1945 as a tank driver. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and drove one of the first tanks across the Remagen Bridge.

Following military service Mr. Preboski worked for the Vulcan Company in Antigo for several years. He was employed by the General Telephone Company as an Installer Repairman for 32 years.

He was a member of the Paul Marmes DAV Post in Antigo, and St. John Catholic Church.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentry.

Survivors include his his wife, Mary one daughter, Lynne Preboski, Antigo; two sons, Dennis (Martha) Preboski, Antigo, Richard (Betsy) Preboski, West Bend; two sisters, Elsie Berdan, Crandon, Julia Whitehouse, Mequon; one sister in law, Cathy Prebski, Cascade, ID; four grandchildren, Kathy Olson, Jamie (Steve) Kirsch, Andrew and Tim Preboski; two step grandchildren, Teri Fritch, Cathy Bedel, seven great grandchildren, Cory and Jason Olson, Kyle Igl, Britany, Blake, Hunter and Austin Kirsch, two step great grandchilden , Nicholas and Ryan; one great great grandchild, Xavier Olson.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Fritch, three sisters, Marian Brehmer, Nina Wilcinski, and Frances Love Drabek, two brothers, Paul & Roy, 1 grandson, Danny Stegall, 1 step great grandson, Cody Fritch.

Services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, with Rev. Charles Hoffmann, officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery where the Antigo Veterans will conduct Military rites. Visitation will be Sunday, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Parish wake service will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
