Cyril Lyons, 90, longtime Antigo resident died Wednesday Sept. 19, 2007. Born on Nov. 17, 1916 in Glenwood City to Joseph and Irene (Gaffney) Lyons. He married Kathleen Bredahl on April 29, 1943 in Elmwood, WI. She preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 2000.

He graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1934 and from River Falls University in 1938 with a degree in Science and Agriculture.

He served with the United States Navy from 1942 - 1946 and continued with the Naval Reserves for 25 years retiring as Lieutenant Commander.

Mr. Lyons taught in Indiana and Elmwood prior to moving to Antigo in 1946. He taught Agricultural classes at Antigo High School for 34 years retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Msgr. Conrad Sailie Knights of Columbus Council 1002 - Antigo, the Leland Tollefson VFW Post 2653 Antigo, the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 662 Antigo, the Vocational Agricultural Association, and the Retired Agricultural Teachers Association. He was a member and usher at St. John Catholic church and also served on the funeral diner committee.

He enjoyed reading, gardening and the coffee clutch groups at the Elks Club and Dixie.

Survivors include his son James (Jan) Lyons, Eagle River, two sisters Mary Adele Tarpey, Indianapolis, IN, and Genevieve (Clarence) Jackelen, Glenwood City, one granddaughter Danae (Will) Deppiesse, Oshkosh and one great grandson Tiernan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathleen, and one brother Edward.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday 11:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Entombment will be at Queen of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum where the Antigo Veterans will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation is scheduled at the Bradley Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. where the Knights of Columbus members will recite the rosary at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
