Irene Boyd, of Antigo, died Monday, March 13, 2017 at home under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 95 years old. She was born on March 17, 1921 in Hankinson, North Dakota a daughter of Albert and Helena (Pankow) Hoefs.
She was a graduate of Hankinson North Dakota High School with the class of 1939, the first member of her family to graduate high school.
Irene moved to Chicago as a young lady where she married Harold Walden. He preceded her in death. She worked at Baxter Laboratories during WWII where she met then married Edward Nells. He preceded her in death in 1988. Irene worked for General Foods in North Lake, Illinois for 8 years in their accounts payable department. She retired to Antigo in 1980. In 1988 she moved to Arizona where she met and married Edgar Boyd. He preceded her in death in 2006 and at that time she returned to Antigo.
Irene enjoyed bowling, reading, gardening and painting. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensible) both in Antigo.
Survivors include a daughter in law, Theresa Walden of Arizona; a step son, Edward (Anita) Nells, North Lake, Illinois; ten grandchildren Michael (Carol) Caffero of Antigo, Louis (Anne) Caffero, Rocco (Chris) Caffero, Cindy (Scott) Moore, Theresa McNeil, Robert Walden, Edward (Courtney) Walden, Renee (Mike) Shea, Daniel and David Nells; 25 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Culver; a son Robert Walden; a sister Beatrice (Alvin) Tyson; two brothers, August (Alice) and Clarence (Alma) Hoefs.
A funeral service will be held on Friday March 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Vicar Jarod Koenig officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home and Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
