Clarence King Jr.,of Summit Lake, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Langlade Hospital. He was 89 years old. He was born on August 23, 1924 in Enterprise, WI a son of the late Clarence Sr. and Lucille (Collar) King. He married Juanita Eaton on November 15, 1947 in Summit Lake. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2009.

He graduated from Elcho High School. Mr. King was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army from February 3, 1943 until March 9, 1946, participating in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.

Following his time in the service he worked for the Chicago North Western Railroad. He owned and operated the Palace of Mirrors Tavern in Summit Lake and drove school bus for the Elcho School District. After selling the bar he went to work for Duffek Sand and Gravel until his retirement.

Mr. King served as treasurer for the town of Upham for 41 years. He was also a member of the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post 377 in Elcho, acting as the fire squad commander for 65 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph (Ruth) King of Lakewood, OH and Randall King (Joanne) of Antigo; two granddaughters, Sommer (Aaron) Baeseman of Edgar and Sarah King of Lakewood, OH; and two great-grandchildren Ashlynn and Macallen Baeseman.


In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, David King; step-mother, Ella (Bremer) King; a sister, Erna Woodzick and two brothers, Edward and Chester.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Richmond officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery Summit Lake. Visitation will be 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Elcho veterans will conduct military honors following the service at the funeral home.
