The year was 1957 (I think), Mr. Wendt and I were god-parents for James Emmett Gallagher. It was a very special day. And I remember that I was paid .50 an hour to babys sit Suzi and Kathy Jane.I also made Suzi a skirt that she wore to school. They were good people and great neighbors.

I was so sad to read of Mr. Wendt's passing in the G.P. News. Yet, it made me smile to think of all the fond memories. He was first my English teacher at Parcels. He had the reputation of being a hard teacher, but he gave extra credit for writings with illustrations. He also coached me to win the 6th grade "Reading Contest" with open
"mike" and a different dialect for each character. Call it "show biz".

When I was in high school, I babysat for his darling little girls. I can still visualize their home. I think it was on Hampton, south of Marter. He and Mrs. Wendt always left me with plenty of soft drinks and cookies. We read bed-time stories together.

Later in the 60's, my four children went to Ferry School, where we continued to see each other. He and Mrs. Wendt enjoyed jazz and followed my husband, who was a musician, wherever he was playing. I always drove a certain route home from the Village so I could go by their home in the Farms. Mr. Wendt was always outside working and I would stop to talk and reminisce about life and the many people who's lives he had influenced.

Mostly I was saddened to read that Mrs. Wendt passed nearly 10 years before him. He must have missed her terribly.

Just felt like sharing.

Ed was my second principal at Poupard. He kept encouraging me to try new techniques in my classroom. Mike and I enjoyed visiting Ed and Dorothy when we drove to Oshkosh to visit my folks. After the first visit we knew better than have a "small " glass of brandy on the rocks.

I was a 5th grader in September, 1955 when Ferry first opened its doors, and remember Mr. Wendt well and fondly. And yes, although I will turn 70 this September, he will ALWAYS be "Mr." Wendt to me.

Suzi: So sad to hear of my "Uncle Ed's" passing. The last of a truly great group of friends! He lived a wonderful life of dedication, dignity and respect. May the Good Lord give you peace and comfort.

I only knew your father for a short time he lived at Pine Meadow & Rosalia Gardens. He was a great man. Always had a kind word. He was always so happy to have Cathy come spend time each night visiting. We will miss him.

Candle Mr. Wendt. I have fond memories of a man I highly respected. He was such a brilliant and dedicated principal, a loving father to Suzi and Cathy, a devoted husband to Dorothy, and an influential role model and neighbor for all of us as we grew up on Hampton Road. I must say that it was a badge of honor to live next door to our elementary school principal.
I can still see a tall, younger Mr. Wendt walking to and from Ferry Elementary School for work. He carried an umbrella (always prepared) and wore a long dark coat and a brown fedora hat.
He always had a kind word and a smile for us. His bemused blue eyes would twinkle as he greeted us and asked how we were doing. I remember that deep laugh that came softly and built up gradually from deep within him as he listened. He was such a good listener. One of the best.
I deeply appreciate the trips I shared with the Wendt family to Wisconsin (Wendtsconsin) during the summers. I lived the Wendtsconsin experience. I felt like part of the family. What a precious gift. Thank you Mr. Wendt (and Mrs. Wendt)!
Mr. Wendt will forever live on in our hearts.

Ed Wendt will be missed by all who have known and loved him. He was a kind and giving person who enjoyed life. His lasting legacy are his two daughters who share his kindness and love of life. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Dorthy.
