Darwin L. "Bucky" Brandow, of Pelican Lake, died Friday, November 29, 2013 at his home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 89 years old. He was born on June 6, 1924 in town of Harrison, a son of Irvin and Josephine (Yindra) Brandow. In 1945 he married the late Lois Ness of Antigo. They had one son, the couple later divorced. In 1965 he married Helen (Djerf) Mews in Milwaukee. She survives.
Mr. Brandow served in the United States Marines from December 4, 1942 to November 7, 1945 having served in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
He was employed as a refrigeration mechanic for 37 years at Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee, retiring in 1983. Following retirement he moved to Pelican Lake where he served as a supervisor on the Town Board of Schoepke for 22 years.
He was charter member of the Germantown Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9202 and a life member of the Leland Tollefson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2653 in Antigo. He was also a life member of the National Riffle Association
Mr. Brandow enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and anything that had to do with the outdoors.
In addition to his wife survivors include a son, Daniel Brandow of Antigo; a step-son, Jim (Mary Jo) Mews of Richfield; three grandsons, Buck (Lynn) Brandow of Jackson, Jeremiah Brandow of West Bend and Calvin Brandow of Menomonee Falls; a step grandson, Derek Mews of Siloam Springs, Ark.; two great-grandchildren, Eden Brandow of Jackson and Gavin Brandow of West Bend; two step great-grandchildren, Aiden and Ashlynn Mews of Siloam Springs, Ark.; a sister, Jeanette Guenthner of Antigo; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his a step-son, Jay Mews; a sister, Lorraine Schwingle; and two brothers, DeMaine and Irvin W.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery in the Spring. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Antigo Veterans will conduct Military Honors at the funeral home following the service.
