Barbara Ellen (Utnehmer) Leiterman, of Antigo, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old. Born on September 17, 1931 in Chicago, IL she was a daughter of Oscar and Virginia (Schmidt) Utnehmer. She was married for 61 years to the love of her life, Adrian Leiterman. The couple was married on April 14, 1951 at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. He survives.
She attended St. John's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Antigo High School with the class of 1950.
She worked at Olks Drug Store for her father from 1945 - 1951. When her children were young she was a homemaker as well as a seamstress. She later worked at Kemps Big Dip Ice Cream Shop as manager for 13 years, Grandview Orchard, and also at Copps Grocery Store.
Mrs. Leiterman was a member of SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club.
She enjoyed, bird watching, flower gardening, planting trees, taking long walks, hiking, fishing and horse back riding as a family. She had a love for the outdoors, animals, especially dogs, singing and dancing. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
In addition to her husband survivors include three daughters, Gail (Mike) Bovet, Antigo, LeeAnn (Bill) Walker, Buffalo, MO and Nancy (Hank) Kakes, Antigo; four sons, Daniel (Jan), Trego, Steve (Lori), Antigo, David Anthony (Louis), Surprise, AZ and Brian (Darnel), Antigo; 12 grandchildren, Mandy (Corey) Bovet Ferg, New Londen, Philip (Shelly) Bovet, Wausau, Drew (Rachel) Walker, Edwardsville, IL, Ryan (Cassie) Leiterman, Lodi, Ashley (Justin) Leiterman Nacius, Green Bay, Jacob (Ashley Kolpack) Leiterman, Antigo, Tiffany (Tony) Penningtion, Antigo, Leroy Leiterman, Antigo, Matthew (Kami) Leiterman, Eau Claire, Heather Kakes, Antigo, Nicole Lieterman, Antigo and Cody Kakes, Antigo; seven great grandchildren, Philine Bovet, Wausau, Ava Kakes, Antigo, Zoey Ferg, New London, Charli Nacius, Green Bay, Ayden Pennington, Antigo and Zachary Bovet, Wausau; a sister, Faith (Tom) Weix, Pardeville; a brother, John Utnehmer of Sturgeon Bay; and a sister-in-law, Sue Utnehmer, Plover.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Trinity Walker and a brother, Arthur Utnehmer.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 - 7 p.m. with a parish wake service at 6:30 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. all at the Bradley Funeral Home.

She was a beautiful person who would lite the room up when she entered. I knew her to be always full of energy.
"Grandma Barb" was such a wonderful lady. She proudly led the team of "scoopers" at Kemps Big Dip for many years. I cherish the many conversations and laughs that we shared during our time together. Grandma Barb cherised her family so dearly. I will remember her zest for life, hard work, and love for family. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time. Rest in peace "Grandma Barb."
