Mary Kriha, of Antigo, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Eastview. She was 87 years old. She was born on March 12, 1925 in Kent, a daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Skidmore) Smith. She married John Kriha on June 24, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Antigo. He survives.
She graduated from Antigo High School with the class of 1943.
She moved to Chicago and worked for the Railroad Retirement Board in their stenographic department. Returning to Antigo in 1945, she began working at the Langlade County Court House for Judge A.N. Whiting. She also worked in the Social Services Department and in the Register in Probate office.
After marriage she and her husband lived in several communities. While in Madison she worked at the Oscar Meyer plant in the stenographic department. In Manitowoc she worked at the ship yards in the Marine Engineer's office. For four years she worked for 3M Company in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She returned to Antigo in 1954 and was a homemaker for a number of years.
In 1969 Mrs. Kriha returned to work at the Langlade County Court House, this time for the State of Wisconsin probation and parole office. During her career she was honored to have worked with five distinguished judges: Judge Joseph McCarthy who went on to be elected United States Senator, Judge Whiting, Judge Thomas McDougal, Judge Ralph Strandberg and Judge James Jansen. She retired in 1986.
Mrs. Kriha was a longtime member of SS Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo and served on the St. Mary Parish council for five years. She was a member of the Ducks Unlimited.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors including her husband are a daughter Diane (Eugene) Stefanski, Antigo; a son Dennis Kriha, Casselberry, FL; two grandchildren Brandon (Elisha)Stefanski, Andrea Stefanski and friend Michael Mattmiller; two great grandchildren Connor and Charlie Stefanski;
two sisters Kay Peterson, Post Lake, Judith (Terry) Schmutzer, Antigo; three brothers John Smith, Neenah, Robert (Bertha) Smith, Two Rivers, Larry (Suzanne) Smith, Pelican Lake;
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters Phyllis (Jerome) Marvin, Beverly (Jewett) Dehart, two brothers, Ray (Eunice) Smith and James (Lorraine) Smith; a sister-in-law Pat Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Friday March 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery in the spring.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

God was watching out for us when we moved to Antigo, Wi when he sent us to our neighborhood. John and Mary have been great neighbors and friends to have. We will really miss Mary and her smile. She was not a very large woman but she had alot of spunk. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Mary always had a smile and a sweet personality. She will be greatly missed. We pray that the Lord will comfort you during this time.
