Wes was my "best-bud" in High School. I remember him coming to Mattoon starting in fifth grade. Best athlete I ever knew - and friend. Lots of double dates. Lots of cruising. I joined the Navy - Wes joined the Marines. Sorry I could not be at the service today. I think he is the first from the class of 1956 to pass. Many fond memories.

I remember most Uncle Wes being the best at getting a good scream and startle from ALL! He would give that wink and say "watch this." Wes, my mom, Ken and I went to Washington to visit Uncle Bob. Wes brought along his own plastic snakes from home! I'm sure we all wet our pants...either from being scared by the snakes...mom, Ken and I or laughing Wes and Bob.

I remember Wes from living in Matton as a youngster. He was a good basketball player, played for my dad Jim La Ham. I remember dad taking Wes home after practice and at times I could ride along. A good man, Blessings!

Wes was a wonderful cousin who knew my late brother Gary more but just the same Wes made it a point to come and visit my mom, Helen Fermanich, on a number of occasions. I enjoyed his stories like a true Fermanich! Wes had a great sense of humor and had a wonderful smile! My condolences to Wes's family and know your grief as we have lost our two brothers, Gary and Mike. May Gods loving hands comfort you at this difficult time. Diane Vorpahl

I have great memories of staying with Uncle Wes, Aunt Jean And the family when he lived in Mattoon. Also when he would stop in at Grandma Ethal's and bring her the Mattoon news. He always knew the scoop.

When I was a kid my family fell on very hard times. For part of the summer I got to spend some time on the farm at uncle Wes's house. Wes new I loved horses and went out of his way to find me one I could ride.My Aunt Jeane and Wes took me shopping and bought me clothes that was needed and I didnt have. I was embarrassed but also very thankful. My cousins showed me how to bottle feed the baby calves and milk cows. Uncle Wes would tease me and call me city slicker. I remember waking up in the morning while all the family had already been up working hard to the smell of fresh baked bread. Im very grateful for that beautiful memory and all the kindness uncle Wes gave me. Im 45 years old now and I remember it like it was yesterday. Thank You Uncle Wes for that.Rest in Peace. God Bless you all!
