Janice Alexander was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 24, 1949 to the late Robert and Leafy Hoehner. A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt. She was received by the Lord with open arms into his kingdom on November 20, 2024, at the age of 75. She was the heart and soul of her family, caring for everyone with a gentle, generous and loving touch. A true matriarch, Janice's nurturing spirit kept her loved ones close and strong, and her memories will be cherished forever.

Janice was the devoted wife of Michael Alexander for 34 years. Together, they shared a loving and true relationship that was a testament to the power of love, patience and commitment. Their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.

She was the loving and proud mother of Jason and Janelle. Her children were the loves of her life, her pride and joy and gave her many endearing memories. She was the loving sister to Robert (Susan) Hoehner, James Hoehner, Paul (SueLynn) Hoehner and Kari Hoehner and loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, who adored her and who she enthusiastically spoiled. Family filled her life with immense pride and joy.

Janice was a woman of many talents. She loved to sing, play the flute, piano and guitar, often playing for the churches she worshiped. She earned a Masters in Music from St. Louis University. She was first a Registered Nurse, then pursued her talents by attending Wayne State University in 1979 obtaining three Board Certifications (Family Practice, OBGYN and Obesity Medicine). She has practiced at several hospitals in Michigan and Wisconsin and was the proud owner of Cedarburg Family Wellness & Aesthetics Center. She delivered over 8,000 babies into this world, assisted many couples conceiving their dreams of a new baby and others with adoptions. Her compassion and empathy for her patients was never-ending.

She gave back to the community through her involvement in church, fundraising activities (Pancreatic Cancer, Breast Cancer, Alzheimer's to name a few) and too numerous to count free office visits and consultations to her many appreciative patients. She participated in medical mission trips to Russia, Latvia, Tanzania and Honduras. She enjoyed training nurses, doctors, EMT's and other medical staff and taught classes, including, CPR, Pre-natal care and Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics. Janice's home was always open to family and friends. There was always room for everyone to make wonderful memories.

Janice's faith in God was a guiding light throughout her life, bringing her strength and comfort, especially in difficult times. She will be missed by all, but her spirit, love, compassion and memories will live on in every heart she touched. She was a true gift of God to many.

A funeral service will be held at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo on Saturday, November 30 at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will take place at the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw, Wisconsin on Monday, December 2.

Dr. Alexander was a one of a kind, old- school doctor. In many ways she was like a wise friend who listened with care and gently guided you to wholeness. I never felt rushed nor invalidated regarding my concerns. She was available after usual business hours and by text too. ALWAYS positive, calm and reassuring when I was not. What a sweet gift she was to me and surely so many. Only wish I had met her sooner and was in her care longer. Grieving her great loss to our slice of the world. Lisa

I phoned the office today to make an appointment and heard a recorded message that she'd passed away. I was instantly shocked and saddened. I had to listen to the message 3 times. Then I wept.
Dr A embodied everything all other physicians should emulate. She cared so much. She listened to all that was going on in my life. She took my symptoms (of too many diverse conditions over the decades) seriously enough to take action to make a diagnosis and took actions to make it better. I went to her whenever another MD brushed off my concerns or said nothing was wrong. Or you're a woman. Too old. Too fat. Too whatever.... She never gave up on me.
My husband used to be amazed that SHE would make follow up calls, even late at night or to just check in.
At every visit we would share dog stories as she knew i volunteer at a shelter and doted my 13 (so far) rescues. She was so worried about her pup's eyesight problem. I did everything I could to help find a vet. Poor little guy must be so lost and bereft without her.
Because of her love for animals I will send a donation in her name to my local shelter.
Janelle, you were the only family I was blessed to meet. My heart aches for your loss.

My deepest sympathies go out to Dr Alexander’s family. She was the most compassionate, caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable Dr that I have had the privilege of being treated by. I have been a patient since her days at Columbia Hospital. She always was up on the latest research that pertain Ed to me. She helped me get into Mayo Clinic quickly. She even gave me her personal cellphone number so that after I moved to Texas, I could still be in contact with her! That is how kind and caring she was! She always had time to speak with me and never rushed the call. The world has lost an amazing person and highly gifted physician. She will be greatly missed by many! I feel privileged to have been her patient.

She was quite simply the best Doctor anyone could hope for. Caring compassionate and skilled, she safely delivered my high risk pregnancy 27 years ago and never failed to ask how my daughter was doing whenever she saw me. She was an angel.

I called today to schedule my annual visit as I’ve done for over 10 years and learned of Janice’s passing. I’m at a loss. She was the most genuine and caring doctor I’ve ever met. I felt so safe in her care and I adored her. A tragic loss to the community, love and peace to her family and all who knew her.

Well done good and faithful servant! Without Dr. Alexander, I am not sure I would have ever been able to conceive children. Now four years later, I have four children. She was able to meet Baby Paul this summer and just delighted in him. She told me to take care until we meet again. She was an angel put on this earth by God to do his miracles. Thank you, Dr. Alexander for everything. We love you and will miss you.

L Lara Khmelevsky on Nov 28, 2024

I met Dr. Alexander when she came to practice in Milwaukee and found an office space in my Dad’s ENT practice at The Medical Arts building at Columbia hospital. She was an amazing physician … and we wouldn’t have our now 21 year old son whose middle name is Alexander, without her medical compassion and dedication.
Recently our daughter needed her and I was so grateful that Dr. Alexander was still practicing!
Her “hi there!” On a phone call was unique and a tribute to her compassionate patient care.
I truly never had a doctor that I’ve trusted as much as her.
I’m shocked and deeply saddened about her death. I will miss her.

Dr. Alexander and advocated for me when I needed it the most. Healing in her clinic was mental, spiritual and physical. Truly sent from heaven she had a way of making life beautiful for everyone she touched. I will always remember her spirit pouring out pure joy wherever she went. Praying for peace to your family.

A devastating loss to your family and to the community. A fine Doctor that literally could work miracles at any hour of the day or night. The glow of her soul will shine on in all the lives of those she had touched. Rest in eternal peace my friend. You will be greatly missed.

T Tammy on Nov 26, 2024

My deepest sympathy to Mike, Jason, Janelle, and the entire family. I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr Alexander's passing, she holds a special place in my heart. She helped me with a diagnosis about 19 years ago when no one was able to figure out the issue. She was easy to talk to too, caring/compassionate, and I felt at ease with her more than any other Doctor I had encounter. Even though she was an hour away, I continued to see her over the last 19 years. She will definitely be missed but never forgotten! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers! Tammy

Dearest Mike, Janelle, Jason and all
of her family I am so deeply sorry to hear of Jan’s passing. She was one of my dearest friends and we were next door neighbors for years. She was one of the most caring, kind, and generous people I have known. She was always willing to help anyone in need.
She was a very dedicated talented physician and loved by so many!
You will truly be missed by so many of us. I remember on my 50th birthday you put 50 pink flamingos up my driveway in the middle of the night so I’d wake up to this surprise.
Thank you dear Jan for all of your love and friendship through the years!

May the peace that only God can bring surround you in the days ahead.
