Marlow E. Strehlow, of Antigo, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Rosalia Gardens Assisted Living under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 101 years old. He was born on July 17, 1922 in Antigo, a son of Louie and Emma (Wojan) Strehlow. He married Bertha Neubauer on January 7, 1958. She preceded him in death on April 19, 1987.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School, class of 1941.
A World War II veteran, Marlow served in the United States Army from June 1943 to December 1945 in the European Theater with the 340 QM Depot Supply. He received the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, and four overseas service bars.
Mr. Strehlow was a salesman having worked for Montgomery Wards, McCandless, Zobel and Bradley Funeral Home and Furniture Store, Glowen's Department Store where he was also assistant manager, and David's Clothing Store for Men and Boys retiring in 1987.
He was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church. For over 50 years Marlow was an active member of the Antigo Lions Club. He held all the local club offices and was District Governor in 1971-72. He served on the State Site Committee, Parliamentarian and District Election Committee, and as director of the Lions Foundation in Rosholt. For many years he picked up glasses locally and took them to Rosholt to be recycled. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, the highest honor you can receive as a Lion's member.
Marlow also volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels for over 20 years.
In his younger years, he enjoyed hockey, having been on the first city hockey team in 1950. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his later years, he loved golfing, getting a hole-in-one at the age of 85.
Survivors include many distant relatives, nieces, nephews, close friends, and caregivers.
In addition to his parents and wife, Marlow was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred (Harley) Cary; and brother, Ruben (Lenore) Strehlow.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. David Karolus officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Elmwood Cemetery, Antigo.
Visitation will be Monday, March 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home and Tuesday, March 26 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at church.
