Bessie M. Steger, age 87, of Antigo, died on March 24, 2023 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born on March 5, 1936 in Antigo, a daughter of John and Antonia (Jira) Novak. She married Earl Steger on May 25, 1957 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Deerbrook.
She graduated from Antigo High School in 1954.
Bessie found a new life in Christ in 1963 and served God all her remaining years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, taught Sunday school, and was a prayer leader in the Christian Woman's club. She played piano for the services at the assisted living facilities. Bessie was employed as a dietitian at Langlade Hospital.
She enjoyed flower gardening, embroidery, gospel music, and was an avid reader. Her favorite bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Earl; daughter, Juli (Perry Duffek) Steger; two sons, Jerome (Kelley) Steger and Ernest (Jody) Steger all of Antigo; four grandchildren, Lukas, Lindsey (fiancé Ben), Keely, and Kassie; a brother, Joseph (Eva) Novak of Clintonville; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Novak of Deerbrook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary (Folkert) Wegter; and three brothers, Anton Novak, John (Rose Marie) Novak, and Milo (Laurel) Novak.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Kindle officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will take place at a later date in the Town of Summit Cemetery.
