Eugene Victor West, age 89, of Elcho, died on Sunday, March 5, 2023 in Antigo. He was born on May 22, 1933 at home in Elcho, a son of Dewey and Mabel (Carlson) West.
Gene joined the United States Army and served in Germany. He worked many jobs throughout his life and lived in several states including Colorado and Washington. When he returned to Elcho he worked for the Elcho Water Department until retirement.
Gene loved nature and hunting. He enjoyed sports and watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He was also a great Elcho historian, storyteller and loved the local news.
Gene is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and all his siblings, Fred, Leland, Louise, Hulda, Oscar, Crystal and a sister in infancy.

Uncle Gene was a kind interesting man. I remember him best smiling driving his Jaguar wearing his tweed flat driving cap.
He visited us at Sparta while my sister Linda and I were in high school. We felt pretty special when he gave us a ride through town. He always had interesting stories about his travels. His eyes twinkled when he grinned! My mom, his sister Hulda really enjoyed his company. Miss you Uncle Gene
