Rose Mary Robinson aka Kookooequay (Owl Woman) of Milwaukee, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa.
Born on December 1, 1941 in Elton a daughter of the late Woodford and Harriet (Bricco) Robinson.
Rose Mary graduated from White Lake High School, class of 1959.
While raising her family in Aniwa, Rose Mary was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, being a part of Christian Mothers, teaching High School CCD, and participating in the choir.
She was a Co-Founder of the Langlade County Right to Life Organization, providing foster care for several children during these years while developing her passion for painting, poetry, and sewing.
Her love for music showed through her years with Sweet Adelines Chorus in Antigo. Her love for singing continued throughout her life, even as her children sang hymns and old family favorites during her last days. Regarding her children, she moved seamlessly from Den Mother to avid sports fan and theater Mom in support of their activities and interests. Because of her connection to her children's friends, they all called her "Mom" or "Mrs. K".
In 1988 Rose Mary moved to Milwaukee. She received her Bachelors of Education and Masters of Educational Psychology from UW-Milwaukee. She was a teacher for the Milwaukee Public School System for Native American Indians, and also at an alternative school for troubled youths until her retirement.
Rose Mary was a First Degree member of the Three Fires Medicine Lodge. Honoring her Ojibwa heritage, she advocated and protested for the Native American Rights for hunting and fishing to include her arrest which she was very proud of.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, beadwork, making Medicine Bags and Tobacco Pouches, and various crafts for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and genealogist, having published a book on the Robinson Family History dating back to 1645, which tracked her French, Irish, and Native American heritage.
Survivors include four sons, Christopher (Katrina) Korbisch of Lonsdale, MN, Clark (Patty) Korbisch of Arvada, CO, Conrad (Lisa) Korbisch of Manitou Springs, CO, and Corey (Maggie) Korbisch of Collegeville, PA; and a daughter, Rebecca Stimac of Antigo. She is further survived by 16 grandchildren, Tabitha, Dustin, Tristan, Natalie, Colin, Casey, Conor, MaryKate, Grace, Calloway, Clare, Billy, Paige, Benjamin, and Anna; many great-grandchildren; a sister Susan Vaughn; and six brothers, Dale, Lionel, Richard, Douglas, James, and Michael.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husband; a granddaughter, Hope Korbisch; a brother, Ben Robinson; three sisters-in-law, Pat Robinson, Delcia Robinson, and Charlotte Robinson; and a brother-in-law, Dale Vaughn.
