Linda Sue Protokowicz, of Antigo, died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Crossroads of Weyawega. She was 73 years old. She was born on June 3, 1949, in Ashland, a daughter of the late John and Edna (Pennebecker) Whalen. She married Richard Protokowicz on June 13, 1970, in Cable, Wisconsin
Linda was a kind friendly person who always did the right thing.
She graduated from Ashland County Teachers College and taught several grades for three years in Bruce, Wisconsin. Upon moving to Antigo she was a Teachers Aide for the Unified School District of Antigo.
At 73 years old she was taken way too early to complications from multiple diseases that she fought for several years.
In addition to her husband, Rich; she is survived by a son, Matthew Protokowicz of Sarasota, Fla; three sisters, Shelia (Jim) Stilin of Rhinelander, Patricia (Larry) Kruzan of Highbridge and Barbara Brown of Rhinelander; and a brother, John Whalen of Mellen.
Her family and Antigo friends will miss her dearly. The world has lost a genuine, compassionate person.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, John Brown.

I will always be grateful for the opportunity to work with Linda in the classroom. I was fortunate to start my teaching career with such an outstanding professional. She was extremely gifted in meeting the needs of the students she worked with. In the seven years I worked with Linda she often talked about her family and it was obvious on how important they were in her life.

I had Mr. Protokowicz in 8th grade and then when I got to high school, I had Mrs. Protokowicz. A very sweet and soft spoken lady. Could really tell she truly loved being there.
I remember my cousin Linda when we visited Mellen from Milwaukee as kids in the summer. She was easy to smile and very patient and compassionate with her younger cousins. A lovely and sweet young woman. Jan Buchmann

RIP Linda. Linda touched the lives of so many. My daughter was a student in the classroom that Linda served as a teachers aide. She was a very caring person. We appreciated all her love and care that she showed to her students. My prayers for Richard and her family

Linda was my paraprofessional when I began teaching in 1990 at Antigo High School. She was a blessing to me every year we worked together. Linda taught me many things about being a compassionate and dedicated teacher. Thank you Linda ❤️
I was very sad to read about Linda’s death. I had the privilege to share teaching many students with Linda in Antigo. She was a very caring person. She will be missed by many. Prayers.
