Richard E. Opper, of Antigo, died Saturday, May 7, 2022. He was 80 years old. He was born on October 10, 1941, in Ringle a son of the late Edward and Adaline (Stoltz) Opper. He married Karen Teal on May 9, 1970, in Antigo.
Dick served in the United States Army having served two tours in Vietnam.
He was employed at Innovative Industries, retiring in 2005. He also worked as a mechanic for Antigo Yamaha.
He was a member of the Darling-Gunderson American Legion Post 341, Birnamwood.
Dick enjoyed being involved in stock car racing with family and was a NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed metalworking, cutting firewood and was a "jack of all trades". His favorite phrase was "if you can't fix it, weld it"
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Karen; two sons, Carl (Carrie) Opper of Phlox and Curt (Gina) Opper of Mattoon; seven grandchildren, Ethan (Whitney), Emilie, Tysen (special friend Meranda), Austin, Hanna, Ashley and Justin; two sisters, Arlene (Orville) Henderson and Linda Opper both of Wausau; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane and Barbara; and his dog, Nixie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda; two grandchildren, Christopher and Tyler; a sister, Delores Wood; brothers, David and Jim Opper; and brother-in-law, Orville Henderson.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Military Honors will take place at the funeral home following the service.
