Irene "Renie" Wagner, of Antigo, died Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. She was 83 years old. She was born the youngest of five children on April 6, 1937, to Gordon and Minnie (Hanson) Bovee.

She was a graduate of Antigo High School in 1955. That same year she married Howard Wagner in Antigo. The couple later divorced.

Renie was a housewife raising two boys and working for the family business doing accounts receivable and payables. She was the "Bus Lady" for many years at Harvey's Citgo which was the Trailways bus stop back in the day.

Renie cherished her seven grandchildren and loved to have them stay overnight so she could spoil them rotten!

She was a lifelong member of Calvary Lutheran Church and enjoyed activities with the church ladies and card playing with her friends.

She volunteered with LeRoyer Hospice for over 20 years. She was very proud of her sobriety of 30 plus years. Her involvement at meetings and mentoring individuals on sobriety changed many lives.

Renie loved to take trips every year. She traveled the world on many adventures with her friend Carol Koss and later with her great friend Jack Beutow. The other trips she enjoyed were casino trips with friends or she would sneak out by herself for a few hours to play the slots.

She is survived by her two sons, John (Vickie) Wagner, Antigo, David (Anne) Wagner, Antigo;

seven grandchildren, Emily (Elishah) Schroeder, Whitney (Daniel) Woods, Andrew (Brian Stoudemire) Wagner, Joel Wagner, Casey (Sydney French) Wagner, Austin (Kaylee Bukholt) Wagner, Jeremy Walters; seven great-grandchildren;

a sister-in-law, Rita Bovee; a brother-in-law, Dick Kestly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Elaine (Ed) Jackson, Helen (Tom) Fermanich, Shirley Kestly; a brother, Gordon Bovee.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Betty Wyatt officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.

The Wagner family offers a special "Thank You" to Renie's caregivers who lovingly took care of her the past few years: Bernie Kramer, Deb Adams, Kaylee Bukholt, Jenny Ashbeck, Renee Brendmuehl, Mary Lou Garbs, Donna Berendt, Becky Majewski, Linda Ingram, Barb Waldvogel.

Our prayers are with the family and for the soul of Aunt Irene. With Magnus, Catherine, Alice, Irvin, & Irene back together, our Lord should pull out the golden piano because songs of joy are about ready to be heard by all in heaven.

Renie and I were next-door neighbors from grade school through high school, and continued our friendship until
adulthood. I am so grateful to have had such a long and
meaningful bond. There are many memories to that will
stay with me forever. She will not be forgotten. My
sympathies to everyone in the family.

I will forever miss “Mom”. I really called her Renie. For over 30 years she spent part of my life and one of the best parts. To her grandchildren that may read this, as you well know, she loved you all with every part of herself. You told me once you got in heaven that you would give me a sign and I can’t wait. Thank you for your loving son, he’s been my friend since first grade and my loving husband for over 26 years. You will be MISSED

My condolences to the Wagner family. Renie and I were going through a huge change in life 30ish years ago. We had so many wonderful adventures together. From Texas, to Colorado, to Duluth, and the Field of Dreams, I was so fortunate to experience Renie’s grace and kindness to all, as well as her sense of adventure. Renie made the world a better place. Sending love and strength to her family! DeeDee Zwicky
