Frances Wurzer, longtime Elton resident, died Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in Green Bay surrounded by family and loved ones. She was 87 years old. She was born on December 19, 1932, in Langlade, a daughter of Theodore and Regina (Lotto) Grimes. She married John "Slicker" Wurzer on October 1, 1955, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Langlade. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2013.

Frances "Baby" Grimes attended grade school in Langlade, graduated from White Lake High School with the class of 1950, and attended vocational school in Green Bay.

Frances worked for the Green Bay Telephone Company as an office worker for two years followed by several years of office work at Johnson Service Parts in Milwaukee. Following marriage she moved to Elton where she and Slicker raised their family and operated a dairy farm.

After retirement she lived in Elton for 25 years, Antigo for several years, and more recently Appleton and Green Bay.

She was a member of Sts. James and Stanislaus Catholic Parish, White Lake and Langlade, where she helped with funeral dinners and was a member of their St. Ann's Society.

Caring for and helping with her grandchildren gave Frances great joy. She often spoiled them with specially decorated birthday cakes and award winning chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed embroidery, baking, and ceramics and gifted many of these items to her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane (Tim) Conrad, Appleton, Linda (David) Racine, Green Bay; two sons, Michael (Janine) Wurzer, Leesburg, Florida, Patrick (Susan) Wurzer, Wausau; a sister, Mary "Dolly" Thomas, Lakewood; eight grandchildren Sarah Habeck, Stephen Wurzer, Matthew Conrad, Paul (Sarah) Conrad, Heather (Jonathan) Kessler, Brent (Tracy) Racine, Kelly (Derek) Hake, Emily Wurzer; two great-grandchildren Brody and Colton Hake.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Myron Grimes; a sister-in-law, Grace Grimes; two brothers-in-law, Henry Wurzer, and Warren Thomas.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday August 11, 2020, at the Bradley Funeral Home.

A private funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church, White Lake.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Elton.

CandleMy sisters and I have been reminiscing about our wonderful summer vacations on the farm. How we enjoyed and looked forward to it every year, reconnecting with all the Wurzer Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Driving from the East Coast, you can imagine how many times we asked “Are we there yet?” And I was honored to have Aunt Frances and Uncle Slicker as my Godparents.

Mike, Diane, Linda, Pat and families, may you find comfort in the love and support being sent by all who will miss your wonderful, sweet and kind mother. Rest in peace, Aunt Frances.

Aunt Tessie & Uncle Bob
Bob, I and our girls have many fond happy memories of our summer vacations visiting Grandpa & Grandma Wurzer on the farm at Uncle Erwin & Aunt Frances's & their kids. How did she put up with all those 8 kids & still smile? She always had fresh homemade bread, cake & cookies and a lot of patience! I have lots of stories I could tell. Frances was one special lady! I'm sorry that Bob & I cannot fly to Wisconsin for the funeral what with the corona virus being what it is, but we send our love & sympathy to you all, Mike, Diane, Linda, Pat & all your families. Love, Hugs & Blessings, Uncle Bob & Aunt Tessie

Mom was the best mother anyone could ask for. She was always available to her children and and grandchildren, family and friends. She was a favorite aunt to many of her nieces and nephews. When somebody would stop by unexpectedly she welcomed them and quickly had coffee and deserts or a meal prepared. When her kids/grand-kids visited the house was prepared and mom and dad had 3 full meals for us every day. I don't know where they found the energy! My friends would stop by to visit even when I was not there. Cards, calls, birthday cakes, full Christmases, Easter baskets (well into our adult years); Mom was on top of everything. And mostly, the unconditional love and support that we received from our parents. We are sad to lose mom, but happy that Mom and Dad are together again. Thank you mom for all that you did for us and taught us. Thank you for your love. Pat

My heart goes out to all the family.Frances was a very dear friend to me.When my late husband,Ron and i moved to White Lake some years ago she welcomed me to the Parish with open arms. She was there to help me in any way.We were on the prayer circle together. She called me and then i called the next person. We usually talked for awhile and often she would tell me about the person we were praying for.She told me about her family who she dearly loved.I kept in touch with her after my husband died in June of 2013 not long after her husband died.I moved to the Appleton area where i have family.Found out that she had moved there too.Visited her at her apartment on several occasions and also at the nursing home after she fell.We talked on the phone too. With Covid going on i couldn't go see her anymore. She will be sadly missed by me.I will keep your family in my prayers.GOD bless you all and stay well.
