Alice Margaret Denis, of Antigo, died Saturday, June 26, 2010 at her home under the care of her family with the assistance of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 90 years old. She was born on September 8, 1919 in Hewlette, New York, a daughter of James and Alice (Serrell) Rafter.

She was raised in Long Island, New York and married Jesse Denis on Feb. 13, 1954. He preceded her in death in 1963. She moved to Antigo in 1980. Her passion was to care for children and she was known as Grandma to many. She enjoyed playing cards and telling stories.

Survivors include a daughter Karen (Robert) Purmort of Antigo, seven grandchildren Robert (Catherine) Purmort Jr., Riverview, FL, Robin (LeRoy) Messer, Sheboygan, Barbara (Sean) Strahota, Rothschild, Carl Purmort, Antigo, Alex, Serena and Aron Purmort all of Wausau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Denis, five brothers, James Rafter, John Rafter, Francis Red Rafter, Harry Toey Rafter, John Rhinehart, and a grandchild, Jeffrey Purmort.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 29, 2010 4:30-7:00 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home. A second visitation will take place in Oceanside, Long Island at the Towers Funeral Home on Monday, July 05, 2010. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, New York.
