Robert (Bob) Koszarek, 70, passed away on Friday February 12 at his home surrounded by family, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born to Michael and Therese Koszarek on June 3, 1939, in Antigo. He was the youngest of 11 children.
Bob attended St. John's grade school and graduated from Antigo High School in 1957.
He worked at AO Smith in Milwaukee, Kraft Foods in Antigo for 34 years, and nine years at Waukesha Bearings in Antigo.
Bob married Carol Chervenka on July 28, 1962 and were blessed with 4 children.
He is survived by his wife Carol; their children Jayne (Paul) Bula, Antigo; Craig (Anita Compton) Koszarek, Ironwood, Mich; Terri (Mark) Tauferner, Mosinee; and Kurt (Dana) Koszarek, DePere.
Bob was very proud of his grandchildren Ashley (Brandon) Wanca, Sara Bula, Leah and Samantha Tauferner, Quinn, Emersyn, and Kade Koszarek, Peter, Daniel, Casey and Ian Compton.
He is further survived by two sisters Bernice Walker, Antigo and Marlene Simon, Mason, Ohio; a brother Bernard Koszarek, Antigo.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Evelyn Wegner and Jeanetta Koszarek: five brothers Melvin, Richard, Sonny, Aloysious, Michael; and a granddaughter Jennifer Bula.
Bob was generous of his time with the Antigo Youth Hockey Association and was a Hall of Fame Inductee. He was an active member of the Msgr. Conrad Saile Knights of Columbus Council1002 and a longtime blood donor.
Bob was a big hockey and football fan and loved being outdoors; camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, gathering wild mushrooms and berries, and sitting around the bonfire. He loved to tinker and build things in his garage.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday February 15, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday at the Bradley Funeral Home from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. A parish wake service will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be at the Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
