Marvin A. Piper, of Antigo, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at his home in the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 87 years old. Born on October 24, 1921 in Antigo, he was the son of the late Archie and Cora (Nickell) Piper. He married Betty Robrecht on February 25, 1947 at Unity Evangelical Reform Church in Antigo. She survives.
He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Antigo, and the Leland Tollefson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2653 , Antigo. He attended Polar Grade School and served in the United States Army in the 98th Signal Battalion in the Pacific Theater during WWll. Returning from military service, Mr. Piper was employed by the City of Antigo Street Department for almost 35 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors including his wife are a daughter, Judith (Gary Harris) Piper Crandon; two daughters-in-law, Beverly Piper Antigo and Marilyn Piper Polar, a brother-in-law Eldridge Slater, Aniwa, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Thomas and Jerome Piper, a brother, Victor Piper, three sisters, Carrie Piper, Violet Slater, and Erma Boyd.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Jack LaMar officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery where Antigo Veterans will conduct Military Honors. Visitation will be Monday, October 5 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home.
