James Harmon, of Antigo, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice at Langlade Hospital in Antigo. He was 86 years old. He was born on January 2, 1923 in Antigo to the late Ernest and Alma (Yakel) Harmon. He married Audrey Robrecht on May 4, 1946 at St. John Catholic Church, Antigo. She survives. He is a member of St. Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church where he served on many parish committees. For many years he has been an Associate of the Religious Hospitalers of St. Joseph.

He graduated from Antigo High School, served four years in the United States Marine Corps during WWll. He saw action in the First Marine Division in the battles of Guadalcanal, Peleliu, and Cape Gloucester.
Following military service, he was employed in Pleasantville, New York for Readers Digest. He moved to Virginia where he worked in the home construction industry for 12 years. Returning to the Antigo area in the late 1950s, he worked as a self employed carpenter until his retirement. He lived in Antigo, Polar and later returning to Antigo.
He is a member of the Timberwolves Detachment of The Marine Corps League, Leland Tollefson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2653, and Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion Post #3

Survivors including his wife are two daughters, Susan (Abraham) Diamond Beaumont, Calif, and Patricia (Russell) Dahms Galesburg, ILL; son in law, Mike Jones Pickerel; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Nancy Jones, a son, William Harmon, two brothers, Robert and Donald Harmon, and a sister, Frances Robbins.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremiah Worman, officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery where Antigo Veterans will conduct Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday, August 7 at the Bradley Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. with a parish wake service at 5:30 pm and a veterans honor guard from 6 to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at the Bradley Funeral Home from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for LeRoyer Hospice.
