Joseph Getts, Jr., of the Town of Peck, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in Eastview Medical & Rehabilitation Center. He was 96 years old

He was born August 22, 1912 in Rockford, Ill, son of the late Joseph and Kazmera Getts, Sr.


He married Olga Mattis on Oct 15, 1938 in Rockford, Ill. She survives.

He was a 1931 graduate of Rockford High School, Rockford, Ill., where he lettered in track. He was employed at Rockford Screw Products as a machine set up man during WWll. In 1946 he moved to the Town of Peck, owned and operated a dairy farm, and was president of the Peck Farmers Union. He worked part- time at Zelazoski Wood Products. He was a past officer and active in the Langlade County Democratic Party. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and swimming. He also wrote songs, enjoyed singing and playing his guitar..

Surviving are his wife, two nephews, Thomas Getts, Portland, Ore., James Getts, Los Angels, Calf., and close friends, Angeline Knapek and family of Deerbrook .

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers William and Charles (Alice) Getts.

Funeral services will be held at Bradley Funeral Home, Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Omer Kelley officiating.

Interment will be held later in the Town of Peck Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 10 am until time of services .
