Roland L. Jansen of Antigo died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at his home in the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 90 years old.
Born November 27, 1917 in Town of Norwood, WI to the late Nels and Ida (Johnson) Jansen immigrants from Sweden and Denmark. He married Mildred Dewey on June 12, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church Mattoon. She survives.
He graduated from the Red River School in Phlox and was a 1935 graduate of Mattoon High School. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Clam Lake.
He was a life long member of St.John Lutheran Church, Mattoon, where he served many years on the Church Council and was a past president of AAL Branch 2279 for 20 years. He also sang in the Church Choir. He remained a member of the Langlade County Farm Bureau where he served as Secretary of the Board for 13 years. In 1969 he was appointed to the Langlade County Zoning Board of Adjustment serving 27 years. He also served on the Federal Land Bank Board for serveral years and the Civil Defense Unit of Town of Norwood.
He and his wife purchased the family homestead dairy farm in 1947. He retired from farming in 1978.
He enjoyed bowling , taking care of his yard, vegetable and many flower gardens, working in the woods and being with his family. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred and , 2 daughters, Cheryl (Lester) Williams Antigo, Debra (Michael) Bauknecht Wisconsin Rapids; sister, Margaret Byrne Antigo; 7 grandchildren, Michelle ( Mike) Umland Eau Claire, Scott (Kris) Williams Antigo, Jody (Craig) Swinehart Hartland, Suzanne Williams Kauai, HI, Joshua, Erika, & Matthew Bauknecht Wisconsin Rapids; 11 great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Erin, & Lauren Walker, Cullen, and Hannah Williams, Alex, and Kyle Swinehart, Sawyer Bauknecht, David, Dustin, & Katie Umland. 2 brothers-in-law Charles Meyers and Gregg Voysey and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son David Jansen, three brothers Harold, Howard, and Roy Jansen and 5 sisters Vera Jannuska, Ruth Wirtz, Marion Eiche, Minnie Meyers, Katherine Voysey.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 11am at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Jason Reed officiating. Burial will take place in Town of Norwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 1 at Bradley Funeral Home from 3:30 to 7pm and at church from 10am to 11 am on Tuesday.
