Joseph J. Benes, 92 of Post Lake, WI, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at home with his family in the care of LeRoyer Hospice.

He was born August 18, 1915 in Chicago, ILL, Son of the late Cyril and Caroline (Kadlec) Benes, SR


He married the Gladys Steele on Jan 25, 1943 in Milwaukee, She survives
In 1934 he was enrolled in Camp Elcho of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He helped build waysides in Elcho and Pelican Lake.
He served in the United States Army during WWll and is a member of the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post #377, Elcho

After military service, he lived in Milwaukee and was employed at a foundry and for 30 years as a Semi truck Driver for A O Smith Corp.
He retried to Post Lake in 1978.
An gifted musician, he played the concertina with his own band.

He was a active member of the Centeral Wisconsin Polka Club. He also was a member the Polka Lovers of America where he and Gladys were King and Queen for two years.

He enjoyed wintering in Texas, fishing and deer hunting. This was his first year he had not deer hunted.

2 Daughters, Sandra Opall Rhinelander, WI, Mary (David) Dinnauer Milwaukee, WI;
2 Grandsons, Kevin Benes Rhinelander, WI, Ryan Opall Rhinelander, WI; Granddaughter, Megan Opall Rhinelander , WI; Great Grandson, Riley Benes Rhinelander, WI;
2 Sisters, Margaret (Chester) Sinkler Antigo, WI, Helen Zelmer Rhinelander, WI; Brother, Stanley (Lucille) Benes Bryant, WI; Sister-in-law, Frances Benes Antigo, WI.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, 3 sisters Caroline Mareska, Mary Mrkvicka, Rose Mareska and 4 brothers Jerry, Cyril, Jr., Frank and Anton Benes, Sr.

Services will be held at Bradley Funeral Home, Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 10:30 am with Rev. Omer Kelley. officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bohemian National Cemetery, Neva, WI.where the Elcho American Legion will conduct military honors

Visitation will be Friday, November 23, from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. at Bradley Funeral Home The Elcho American Legion will stand honor gurad from 6:00pm to 7:00 pm. Visitation will be held Saturday Nov 24, from 9:30 to 10:30am at the at the Bradley Funeral Home, Antigo, WI.
