Leonard Schisel, longtime Phlox resident died Sunday August 5, 2007 at the home of his daughter in Marathon County at the age of 74. He was born on March 25, 1933 in Langlade County to Rheinhart and Agnes Schisel. On June 8, 1957 he married Mary Husnick at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 2004. He was a member of St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church in Phlox where he served as a religious education instructor.
He served in the U.S. Army having served in Korea. He owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Norwood for the majority of his life. He also operated High Country Rides - horse drawn hay and sleigh rides.
Mr. Schisel served as chairman and for 33 years as board member of Production Credit Assoc., which later became Farm Credit Services. He was a member of the Devine-Menting American Legion Post #525 Phlox. He also volunteered as an EMT on the Town of Norwood Fire Dept., and was involved in 4-H activities.
Survivors include two daughters Gina Schisel of Wausau, Tami Schisel of New Jersey, two sons Kurt Schisel and Todd (Martha) Schisel both of Phlox, five grandchildren Jesse, Jackie, Tony, Mary, and Molly, two sisters Eileen (Roman) Menting of Phlox and Helen (Donald) Mosher of Depere, one brother Eugene (Karen) Schisel of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, one brother Harold "Hummer" Schisel.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 9, 2007 at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. David Keifer and Deacon Tom Hartman officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home and again on Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Parish wake service will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Devine-Menting American Legion Post will conduct military rites following services at the church. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be remembered for his integrity, wit and humor.
