Vernon Schroeder, of Elcho, died Saturday, November 25, 2017, after a courageous five month battle with cancer. He was 59 years old. He was born on August 23, 1958, in Milwaukee, a son of the late Orville and Jane (Mehrtens) Schroeder. He married Jody Sell Schroeder on October 15, 1988.

While in Menomonee Falls Vern worked for Gershke Landscape, as a custodian for the Menomonee Falls School District and developed a reputation as the local handyman, assisting with anything the neighbors may need help with. He moved to Elcho in 1998 where he was a truck driver for various companies, worked seasonally for Four Seasons Landscape Company, FS Insight and continued his reputation as an area handyman.

He was an avid outdoorsman who was a passionate hunter, fisherman and trapper. Vern enjoyed story telling and took special pride in his yard and garden.

Vern is survived by his wife, Jody of Elcho; a son, Ryan (significant other, Jessica Gobert) Schroeder of Elcho; a daughter, Stephanie Schroeder of Summit Lake; two Granddaughters, Kennedy Jo Schroeder and Isabella Fraley; a sister, Jane (Warren) Wagner of Elcho; three brothers, Alan (significant other, Margie Gassner) Schroeder of Lomira, Jeffrey (Barbara) Schroeder of Milwaukee and Curtis (Kathleen) Schroeder of North Lake; and mother-in-law, Joanne Sell of Menomonee Falls.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lauren Filo and father-in-law, Frank Sell.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 12 p.m. at United Church of Christ Congregational, Elcho with Rev. Dana Schindler officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, December 16, at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Services
