Mary Elizabeth Yakey, of Antigo, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Aspirus Langlade Hospital. She was 91 years old. She was born on March 23, 1925 in Christian County, Ill. a daughter of the late Arthur and Petranella (Heimrich) Fleckenstein. She married Leonard Yakey on April 7, 1951 in Decatur, Ill. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1989.

She graduated from Decatur High School in 1943.

Mary was a secretary in various business offices in Illinois. She resided in Rockford, Ill. for 24 years, moving to the town of Norwood in 1975.

She was a member of St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church in Phlox, St. Anne Society, St. Joseph Council of Catholic Women and was active in Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She taught religious education classes and served on several committees at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She also served on the Advisory Council to the Committee on Aging in Langlade County and was a member of the Community Association of Retirees in Antigo.

She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family. It gave her great peace and comfort to say her daily prayers and rosary.

Survivors include three daughters, Anna Rahn of Bollingbrook, IL, Rosella (Thomas) Spencer of Antigo and Ruth (Michael) Pomerantz of Green Bay; four sons, Paul Yakey of Machesney Park, Ill, Phillip (Marian) Yakey of Wapella, Ill, Samuel (Janice) Yakey of Sun Prairie and Joseph (Lana) Yakey of Antigo; 13 grandchildren; one step-grandson; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Amelia (Albert) Zimmerman of Springfield, Ill, Sr. Mary Agnes Fleckenstein and Sr. Marcelita Fleckenstein both of Milwaukee; two brothers, Paul (Judy) Fleckenstein of Decator, Ill and Anthony (Elois) Fleckenstein of Summerfield, Fla; two sister-in-laws, Mary Fleckenstein of Springfield, Ill and Rita Fleckenstein of Howell, NJ;

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Herbert; two daughters in infancy, Lenora and Jane; and a son in infancy, Mark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann and Deacon Thomas Hartman officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to All Saints Catholic School.
