Ellen Tucker, of Summit Lake, died Friday, September 23, 2016 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center. She was 94 years old. She was born on April 17, 1922 in Summit Lake, a daughter of Truman and Alma (Person) Rice. She married Deward Tucker on July 7, 1945. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1990.
Following her marriage she lived in Antigo. In the early 1950s she moved to Belgium, Wisconsin where she raised her family and worked at home for the Allen Edmonds Shoe factory. After her husbands death she moved to Cedar Grove and returned to Summit Lake in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine (Harold) Lallensack of Jackson; two daughters-in-law, Audrey Tucker and Leann Tucker; a sister-in-law Donna Rice; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by three sons, Everett, Merlyn and Russell Tucker; a sister, Jeanette Space; three brothers, Merle, Alden, and Eugene in infancy.
Visitation will be Monday September 26, 2016 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home followed by a sharing of memories service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, Summit Lake.

I remember being overnight at their house one time and Elaine and I were just waking up in the morning. Ellen came in the bedroom with Julie, her granddaughter who was probably around 7 or 8 months old at the time. Ellen put the baby on the bed with Elaine & I remarked how cute Julie was. Ellen stood there with the biggest smile on her face, she was so proud of her granddaughter. Miss you Ellen but I know how you are smiling now!
I have such nice memories of Ellen. I spent a lot of my childhood in Belgium at their home. This past week my mom was cleaning out a closet and she found a letter I wrote when I was in grade school. I was staying in Summit Lake with Elaine and her mom and dad. After a few days I got homesick and wrote a letter to my mom and dad. Elaine's dad was heading back to Belgium so he delivered the letter to my parents. I remember sitting on their sofa (Ellen was in the kitchen preparing dinner) writing that letter like it was yesterday. How ironic my mom found that letter this week after about 50 years! She was a lovely lady and is now reunited with her husband and sons. My sympathy to all family members. Joyce Steffen
